This presentation is about the status of ATSC3.0 television standard
ATSC 3.0 (NextGen TV) is now on the air in more than 75 U.S. markets, reaching approximately 76% of U.S. television households as of early 2026 yet adoption remains limited. While offering 4K and interactive features, it faces challenges from mandatory 1.0 simulcasting (until at least July 2027), limited TV manufacturer support, and consumer complaints over DRM encryption. This presentation will explain the current state of the ATSC 3.0 transition and some of the misunderstood issues surrounding DRM. ATSC 3.0 is the next generation terrestrial broadcast system designed from the ground up to improve the television viewing experience with higher audio and video quality, improved compression efficiency, robust transmission for reception on both fixed and mobile devices, and more accessibility, personalization and interactivity. The ATSC 3.0 standard is defined in a suite of more than 20 Standards and companion Recommended Practices.
This presentation promises to be highly informative, and all members are strongly encouraged to attend, regardless of whether they work in television or radio. Your participation is highly valued and will contribute to the overall success of the event.
